Our Team
Dr. James Gillen is a dedicated veterinarian providing expert care to pets and their families in Jacksonville, FL, and surrounding areas. Originally from Puerto Rico, he moved to Jacksonville at age 12, where his passion for animals and medicine led him to pursue a career in veterinary care.
After earning his undergraduate degree at Florida State University, Dr. Gillen gained hands-on experience as a veterinary technician, SAT/ACT tutor, and high school teacher before completing his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at the University of Florida in 2019.
With special interests in dermatology and internal medicine, Dr. Gillen has co-authored research on canine atopic dermatitis and Leishmaniasis. When he’s not caring for pets, he enjoys outdoor adventures like beach volleyball, surfing, scuba diving, and hiking. He also loves fitness, running, biking, and reading science fiction.
At home, Dr. Gillen is not just a veterinarian—he’s a pet parent too! He shares his home with his wife, son, two dogs, two cats, and a ball python.
